Today's guest lecture by Professor Perez marks the end of his time with us at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz and at ClimLaw: Graz. Professor Perez presented a lecture to the students of the "International Climate Change Law, Policy and Litigation Seminar" on his research regarding the problem of securing intergenerational cooperation in climate action. His lecture covered content including: Inter-Generational Public Good Dilemmas (IGPCDs), the moral obligation to pursue solutions to IGPGDs, the need for commitment mechanisms (CMs), designing sub-constitutional CMs, and Network-driven private regulatory mechanisms. We would like to extend our gratitude to Professor Perez for taking time to share his knowledge and expertise with emerging scholars. We look forward to seeing your developments in this field and to engage with you further in this regard.
Prof. Oren Perez, as of October 1st, is the Head of the Bar-Ilan University Multidisciplinary School for Environment and Sustainability at Ramat-Gan in Israel. He was previously the Dean of the Bar Ilan University | Faculty of Law. He is also the Founding Director of the SSRN-Hebrew Research Network (HRN) and the Co-director of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Digital Governance. His main research fields include #environmentalregulation #transnationallaw #legaltheory #edemocracy #globalization.
The seminar focuses on the architecture and the rules governing climate change (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement) and their substantive implementing mechanisms also in light of linkages with other areas of national and international law. The module has a particular focus on the complex legal questions arising from climate change, which influence environmental economics and the use of market-based policy approaches such as environmental taxes and emissions trading.
