Hydrogen – Energy Source of the Future

The Round Table ClimLaw on 11.6.2025 focused on the hydrogen ramp-up in Norway and Austria. Catherine Banet, Professor of Law at the University of Oslo, presented on the topic “Interaction between hydrogen permitting and hydrogen offtake agreements”. The second speaker, Celin Gutschi, policy advisor at the Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism, spoke about the “Transformation of the Renewable Gas Directive 2024 into Austrian National Law - with focus on hydrogen”. Discussed have been – among others - the (legal) possibilities of caps for hydrogen prices, the participation in (hydrogen) authorisation and planning procedures and the right scale for the hydrogen regulation.
