Prof. Elizabeth Valdes-Miranda Fernandez from the University of Havana presented at the ClimLaw Round Table (7.5.2026) on the topic “ International Climate, Energy Law and Energy Policy – a Critical Approach from a Cuban Perspective”. The Round Table took place in the context of the seminar “Energy Law and Climate Protection” under the direction of Prof. Renate Pirstner-Ebner (ClimLaw Center). Among other topics, the discussion covered Cuba’s specific energy situation (oil demand), options under the Loss and Damage Fund, and new legal incentives for investments in renewable energy power plants. Atieh Khatibi B.Sc. LLB. M.Sc. MA (ClimLaw Center) compared the Cuban and Iranian situations and brought up the feasibility of establishing a climate court. Prof. Amanda Alvarez (University of Havana) described the challenges enterprises face when investing in energy infrastructure against the backdrop of the need for low energy prices.
